SkyArt Slider Comp WINNERS Announced!

You guys are a bunch of creative geniuses, top-effort-makers and s&%t hot designers. Who knew?! Or perhaps you’re just bored in winter or had some rainy days at the dropzone. Either way, hats off to everyone who put your creative hats on and pimped out some sliders!

Here is the winner (woot woot!), some of our favs, and some honourable (and dishonourable) mentions from your entries.

Overall Winner & Most Beautiful Award

“Kea” by Lily Marshall

The vote was unanimous for this beautiful original painting of the Kea, a New Zealand alpine parrot. Stunningly gorgeous, colourful and striking, how could we go past it?! It’s both simple and detailed, and is a wonderful symbol of pure wild flight. Native to our country (and Lily’s, she’s a Kiwi!) we couldn’t help but draw the parallels, and we wanted nothing more than to see this come to life on a slider. Congratulations Lily! Not only will she receive this design on a slider, but also 50% off an Icarus canopy.

People’s Choice Award

“Grand Theft Skydive” by Pawel Pelech

With 197 likes on Facebook, Grand Theft Skydive was the most popular with the masses. Full of that action and adventure vibe, we whole-heartedly approve.

Fuck Yeah! Award

“Jesus Take the Rears” by Si Elliot

It needs not much explanation. This beautiful comment by Andrew Lee on FB doth sum it up best:
“And on the seventh day he doth send it, for the lord had graced him with the maddest of skillz.
For thou shalt not giveth up the gates.
Thou shalt addeth rotation.
For if you believe you are low, faith that riser saviour shalt redeem ones swoop better than a toggle stabath.
For he shalt suffer the flaring with yon femurs and ploweth the land
For it was good.
So was the word of the holy trinity of Chris’s, thou despite being wise Testies and those traditionally come in pairs, for they are three anointed in the waters of export lager and poor life choices.
Thus endeth the lesson.”
Fuck Yeah!

Testies Choice Award

“The Last Supper” by Dave S

A master of hidden meanings and small details, Dave S’s The Last Supper was the gift that kept on giving in ways of giggles for us. Jyro’s face in the center, surrounded by disciples wearing one of the Chris’ faces (Brooky to be exact). Beers in hands and “Sanctus Deus Fuck Yeah” inscribed on the wall. And the clincher….the tiny face of John LeBlanc looking up at Jyro a few seats over. Absolute. Gold. Well done sir, well done.

p.s. We love our mates over at PD…but not adverse to some chuckles at their expense πŸ˜‰ #friendlycompetition

Best Graphic Design

“Nap Time” by Harrison Edwards

Yet another tribute to one of our Chris’s – seriously what is with you guys and the Brooky fetish?! – Nap Time features said Testie with his blanky in front of the OG Icarus World Headquarters at Sussex Street. It all stems from one of his many nicknames (Wet Blanket), and his affinity for naps and tea. This slider simply has to be made…in fact we’ve already printed it out for the factory.

Best Text

“Crossword” by Jake Warburton

Clear standout for best text, this includes so many of our favourite words. All the fun things! And the fact that he managed to include penis in there in a way that was still Facebook-posting-friendly is just a bonus. Yes, yes, we’re all so mature aren’t we.

“Crossword” by Jake Warburton

Best Meme Usage

“Lower!” by Jarrod Gardiner

It is nearly 2020 after all, so seems only appropriate to include a prize for using a meme in the best possible way. And this? Well, this is perfection.

DISCLAIMER: Despite the hilarity of this design, our policy is, and always will be, that safe is cool

Dropzone Bum Award

“Still works” by Emma McIntosh

There’s one (or ten) on every dropzone πŸ˜‰ That broke ass dropzone bum. Sometimes they’re packers. Other times over-enthusiastic kids. They fly gear with patches on patches, a canopy that’s more patches than canopy. You might hear them say, “She’ll be right mate”. Or, “Just put some duct tape on it”. “Got plenty of life left in her”, they reckon. “Still works”, doesn’t it. Em’s slider has seen better days, and we appreciated her way of asking for a new one. So congrats chick, this one’s yours πŸ˜€

Best Original Artwork

“Fumes, Women, Sky” by Marcio Natel

It’s edgy, grungy, tropical, sexy. Really cool original graphic artwork. Also, props for presenting explicit content in a tasteful way. Facebook didn’t even remove it from our album, respect πŸ˜‰

“Fumes, Women, Sky” by Marcio Natel

Funniest Design

“Fired” by Kirk Theobald

LOL. We looooove it. So, so good. Bill is somewhat of a folk legend in the skydiving world. He’s a fantastic customer of ours. And if you haven’t been to Lodi or heard the tales of the infamous “firings”, well, you’ve been living under a rock. It’s his dropzone after all…so if you don’t play by his rules, you can pack your stuff and leave. Despite the grammatical error* that has us slightly on edge, Kirk, your entry made us, and probably a lot of others, laugh. So we want him to have it!

* #YOUREFIRED (it will be correct prior to printing)

Smaller Prizes

Best of the 30,000 Unicorns

“Fuck Yeah! Unicorn” by Melissa Chong

There were a lot of Unicorns. Just sayin’. And this was our favourite out of all of them. It was the tiny Fuck Yeahs that got us πŸ˜‰Β  And saaahhhhh pretty. Definitely deserving of a rainbow Icarus Tee and some other goodies.

Participation Award

“:.?” by Florent Mathieu

Confused? Yeah, us too πŸ˜‰ Not exactly sure if it’s a smiley face or a bunch of punctuation thrown together, but regardless, we wanted to say thanks for getting involved and being a beacon of light for those of us without an artistic bone in our body. We’re gonna send a little prize pack your way to say thankyou (and sorry for ripping on you in front of everybody) πŸ˜‰

“:.?” by Florent Mathieu

The Fuck Yeah Nah Award

“Skirt” by Kim Gonsholt

And the most dishonourable mention for the most inappropriate design goes to Kim for this entry. Wow. Just wow. We have no words.

“Skirt” by Kim Gonsholt

Thanks for playing kids! Loved getting these entries, so entertaining! Mucho love, long swoops and Merry Xmas jumping
